UPDATE July 22:
The Zoning Board has again continued the hearing until Wednesday, August 21 at 7:00 pm. The May meeting was packed, and people were not satisfied with the responses from Sipler. The issue was tabled in June and July. Save the date and be there in August to learn more about the effects on your air quality and to challenge them on August 21.
PLEASE SEE ATTACHED. This is unacceptable!
ATTENTION EPHRATA BORO RESIDENTS!
The Ephrata Borough Zoning Hearing Board has been petitioned by Giles Sipler, LLC, owner of the Gravenor-Sipler Funeral Home to consider granting a Special Exception or a variance to add crematory facilities to a commercial building at the corner of S. Maple Street and E. Fulton Street. If approved, this change would allow the installation of a crematorium on land that is currently zoned high density Residential and which is in close proximity to a residential neighborhood and only 0.1 mile from a school.
PLEASE ATTEND: EPHRATA BOROUGH ZONING HEARING TO VOICE YOUR CONCERNS
WEDNESDAY, 7:00 PM, ** tabled until August 21
Council Chamber of the Ephrata Borough Offices, 124 S. State Street, Ephrata
106 E. Fulton St. – Proposed site for crematorium - ONE BLOCK FROM A SCHOOL, AND IN THE MIDDLE OF A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD.
THIS SPECIAL EXCEPTION OR VARIANCE SHOULD BE DENIED FOR THESE REASONS…
· Crematory facilities emit mercury vapors into the environment.
· A crematorium is an industrial operation and has no place in a residential neighborhood or in close proximity to a school.
· Crematoriums negatively impact real estate values. Proximity to a crematorium may reduce property value up to 6.5%.
· The current structure is less than 20 feet from the sidewalk and road and would not allow for privacy and dignity.
· This site is clearly inappropriate for a crematorium and presents bad optics
YOUR ATTENDANCE AT THIS MEETING IS CRITICAL...
SPEAK UP NOW AND CALL YOUR ZONING BOARD MEMBERS TO RESPECTFULLY EXPRESS YOUR CONCERNS
